Making Skill Challenges Fun

Fun Skill Challenges    One thing I have observed from playing LFR modules, is that skill challenges, if you’re not role playing can suck.    Most players just try to breeze through it by going around and letting the guy with the high diplomacy, arcana, athletics, etc... handle it all.    I strongly believe that full party participation on a skill check can make for a fun skill challenge.   Just because you don’t have a +11 to diplomacy does not mean you can’t use another skill to persuade an NPC.  . Check these examples out: . Bluff- if your character is a bard or a rogue, bluffing is a great alternative to diplomacy.  . Arcana-you can assist by pulling off a little charm effect, kind of like a Jedi mind trick.  . Thievery- if it’s an item you need to get from an NPC, a slight of hand may do the trick. Just make sure you don’t get caught ;)  .    How you go about skill challenges is limited only by your ima...

Metagamers, Rule Lawyers, and Know-it-alls

Metagamers, Rule Lawyers, and Know-it-alls Let’s face it; we have all, at some point in time been in the presence of one or more during a game session. They can make the campaign/encounter a less than favorable experience, putting it nicely.   Let me break it down by type. Hopefully, people will share about their experiences with such archetypes. The Metagamer - this person leaves no room for role-playing, they build a character to win rather than to enjoy.     They can also be referred to as min-maxers. Don’t get me wrong, I fully appreciate the fact that they can come up with optimized character builds. However, sometimes their characters fall short in the role playing department. That can affect the flow of the game, especially for those who play for the story rather than the logistics.   They can turn things form a role playing game into a strategy game very quickly.   Though I do enjoy strategy at times, but as a role player too much strategy, no es bu...

Great Mini Painting Tutorial

This is a great miniature painting tutorial. I just love how they go over the how to's of painting, yet at the same time they give you room to develop your own painting style. Teaching you several techniques so you can find what are the best ones for you to use. In my opinion if you are new to miniature painting and are looking to buy a DVD set, this would be a good one to get. http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/mainwebsite_html/gallery/DarkSwordDVD.html

A new, updated, Dr. Seuss book:

I do not like this Uncle Sam, I do not like his health care scam. I do not like these dirty crooks, or how they lie and cook the books. I do not like when Congress steals, I do not like their secret deals. I do not like this speaker, Nan, I do not like this 'YES WE CAN.' I do not like this spending spree, I'm smart, I know that nothing's free. I do not like your smug replies, when I complain about your lies. I do not like this kind of hope. I do not like it, nope, nope, nope!

My First Post
